2002 Fauntleroy / Southworth Preservation Project
American Construction Company (ACC) was selected to perform major renovations of the Southworth and Fauntleroy ferry terminals. To do this, ACC drove steel piling ranging from 14" to 36" and conducted extensive use of precast and cast-in-place concrete to replace the deteriorated timber structure. ACC replaced portions of the timber approach trestles, repaired/replaced mooring dolphins, and replaced utilities. To complete the project successfully, ACC constructed multiple off-shore mooring structures and dolphins. Finally, ACC installed 2,300 square feet of sheet piling.
Numerous changed site conditions at the Fauntleroy ferry terminal that required a significant amount of additional work and effort. Even with these changes, the terminal was completed prior to the scheduled re-opening date.
